I can’t believe the children go back to school this week.
Just where did the summer holidays go?
While we were sitting having dinner a couple of nights ago, I asked the children what they remembered most from the summer holidays about where they’d been.
The answer, of course, was “I can’t remember”.
I know children’s memories can be short but I’d expected a little more than that!
So I had to remind them what we have actually done this summer, even though we haven’t actually been away on holiday.
We’ve been to the beach (several times), where they have had a chance to build sandcastles, paddle in the sea and look out for crabs and fish and unusual shells.
We went to the funfair where Woo loved the water ride so much he went on it 7 or 8 times, Lou loved the ‘Dragon Ride’ which is a mini rollercoaster and Boo was quite happy on the more sedate rides this year. The balloon ride was her favourite.
We spent a day at the zoo with my sister and her family which all the children really enjoyed. I have to say that we parents enjoyed it too.
We’ve been to the park several times too. The children never cease to amaze me how easily they make new friends and talk to people. I wish I had their confidence!
A couple of times when the weather wasn’t so good, we went to our local soft play. These places are great for wearing children out.
We’ve also been swimming a few times. The children had a great time and have even got confident enough to have a go at swimming in the ‘big pool’.
We’ve taken them out for meals a few times too. They love to do the ‘grown up’ stuff too.
I have mixed feelings about them going back to school. When we haven’t been going out, I’ve loved listening in on some of the games they invent and I will miss their little giggles.
I have to admit I’m quite looking forward to making a start on sorting out some of the rooms in the house though.
Not to mention, having a quiet cup of tea…Google+
