We have decided to decorate our bedroom.
When we moved into our house 10 years ago, the previous owners had only just decorated in most of the rooms, so we didn’t need to do very much when we moved in.
Since then we’ve had three children and 10 years has passed, so we decided the time had come to decorate our bedroom.
The children’s rooms were painted in preparation for them being born, so they don’t need doing yet. As I mentioned in my previous post, I have just finished painting the bathroom, and we have done the kitchen and hallway in the last couple of years.
So, in between various school events and keeping up with all the regular household chores, I have been taking the wallpaper off in our bedroom.
At first I thought it was going to be an easy task, but the wallpaper wasn’t going to come off easily. It seemed as though it had been stuck on with superglue!
I borrowed a steamer from a friend of mine, which did work but I found this a bit messy so I looked on Google for suggestions of easy ways to get wallpaper off.
I found that if you put half vinegar and half water in a spray bottle (use white vinegar rather than malt though because the smell doesn’t hang around for as long), then spray the wall and leave it to soak in for a couple of minutes then use a wallpaper scraper, it comes off quite easily. Apparently the vinegar helps to dissolve the glue on the back of the wallpaper.
It’s taken me over a week (an hour or two here and there) to get it all off and today I finally won the battle! The only really difficult bit was moving our wardrobes out of the way so I could get behind them. It has made me realise that it’s definitely time for a bit of a sort out. We have far too much stuff.
Apart from that, this week I’ve been to see Lou doing ‘Bollywood’ dancing at her school, which was lovely. The parents had to join in too and we had some fun. As with everything concerning the twins at school, I get to do it all again tomorrow with Boo.
Today we went to Woo’s parents’ evening and met his Year 4 teacher. She seems really nice and gave Woo a good report and we talked about areas where he needs extra help.
Then on Friday, Woo has an inset day so no school for him. He can come with me and maybe my Mum too, to see Lou in her ‘Samba Drums’ concert at school.
It’s the half term holidays next week. Phew! A rest at last. Well for the children anyway. The decorating isn’t going to do itself…Google+
