Is there really more stress being a Mum of three?
When I had my twins, I went from being a Mum to one child, to a Mum of three overnight. When I had my son, I thought I had a lot of stress even then. However, I found this to be a lot different when the twins came along!
I never had just two children, so I can’t honestly say what life would have been like only having two. I can only speak from experience of having one or three.
According to an article in the Daily Mail yesterday, mothers of three children have the most stress, whilst mothers to four children are more relaxed.
My own experience of having three children is that the times I have just had my son home from school by himself, I have found it to be pretty easy (not including when he’s at home poorly). Having both of my girls at home is still quite manageable. Put all three children together and that’s when the fun starts! There is usually quite a bit of rivalry and quite often one child out of three gets left out of the games. It’s quite rare that all three children play together nicely for more than a few minutes. That’s why it’s so lovely to see. I feel the most stress when they start to argue with each other, or me!
I know when I had just my son, I did make a lot more of a fuss over him and what he was doing, eating and how much he was sleeping, and how I reacted when he hurt himself.
I have definitely become more relaxed since I have had the twins and felt a lot less stress over the little things. I have also become much more relaxed about how tidy the house should be when the children are at home. I’m quite a tidy minded person, so this took a lot of getting used to!
So it probably is true that by the time you get to four children, you have much less time for stress and fussing over them (but at the same time, there’s always enough love) and therefore you become more relaxed.
